Mad Fact

Dionysos is the only god with a mortal parent (Zeus is his dad) and one of few gods who traveled to and returned from the underworld.

Green Fact

Kalamata olives are high in monounsaturated fat (like avocados), also known as a “healthy” fat, which may help lower your cholesterol level, reducing your chances of a heart attack or stroke.

Chef's Inspiration

You cant go wrong with a Greek salad juicy tomatoes, Kalamata olives, fresh cucumbers, and salty feta. Opa! But the Dionysos goes beyond the usual oil/vinegar dressing with the Red Wine Vinaigrette, my own tasty addition to a tradition.

MAD Story

The Greek Gods were accustomed to drinking Ambrosia, a pure sugar drink also known as “the nectar of the gods”, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dionysos grew tired of eating the same thing every day so he visited the local shepherd’s market to purchase red onions, feta cheese, cucumbers, romaine lettuce, Kalamata olives and grape tomatoes. He mixed everything in a bowl with red wine and olive oil and was amazed at how good he felt after eating! He trademarked his new salad the ‘Dionysos Diet’, effectively creating the world’s first fad diet. Needing a venue to educate people about his diet, he founded the world’s first music, wine and health festival. Thousands of Greeks attended the festival to try the Dionysos Diet and drink lots of wine. Everyone wanted the salad recipe, but Dionysos resisted, knowing if he gave it away his fans would no longer pay to attend his health festival. Then one day, he accidentally texted his ex-girlfriend the recipe. She forwarded the text to her contacts and fortunately, Chef Dan was one of the lucky recipients. Dionysos’ text #FAIL is your gain. Enjoy!
