Chef's Inspiration
You can't go wrong with a Greek salad: juicy tomatoes, Kalamata olives, fresh cucumbers, and salty feta. Opa! But the Athena goes beyond the usual oil/vinegar dressing with the Red Wine Vinaigrette, our own tasty addition to a tradition.
MAD Story
The Greek gods were accustomed to drinking Ambrosia, a pure sugar drink known as “the nectar of the gods," for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was delicious but the gods often had afternoon sugar crashes, which Athena grew tired of. One day, she visited the local shepherd’s market to purchase red onions, feta cheese, cucumbers, romaine lettuce, Kalamata olives and grape tomatoes. She mixed everything in a bowl with red wine and olive oil and was amazed at how good she felt after eating! She immediately posted on Instagram about the new #AthenaDiet; her 2700 followers were mesmerized by the beautiful meal and intrigued by the promise of a nap-free afternoon. Athena effectively created the world’s first fad diet with thousands of Greeks jumping on board within the year. Or maybe it wasn't such a fad...considering MAD Greens is still selling her original recipe almost three centuries later.
